Wes has over 15 years experience as an entrepreneur and innovator in the music business. His career began producing concerts for Nas, The Roots, The Dave Matthews Band and De La Soul. He then went on to start his own promotions company, Seven Heads Promotions. Seven Heads worked closely with legendary label, Rawkus Records to help launch the careers of Mos Def, Talib Kweli and others.
Under Wes’ leadership Seven Heads then expanded into a record label and management company. Clients included The Unspoken Heard, J-Live, El Da Sensei, Djinji Brown and others. Music from the Seven Heads Roster was included HBO’s “The Wire”, film “Brown Sugar” amongst other film and TV placements.
One of Seven Heads’ highlights was putting together the deal for The Unspoken Heard to score the theme to the acclaimed animated comedy, “The Boondocks”.
7H Promotions was then spun into The Room Service Group (RSG), one of the leaders in digital marketing. RSG has worked with Def Jam, Capitol, Warner Bros., Interscope, Vivendi, Converse and more.
In 2005 Wes founded the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival with the mission to create a world class event to honor Hip-Hop music and culture and the borough of Brooklyn. Since then the Festival has hosted a range of amazing talent including: Kanye West, Q-Tip. De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco, Big Daddy Kane, Talib Kweli, Brand Nubian, Styles P, Pharoahe Monche, dead prez, Ghostface Killah, KRS ONE, Little Brother, Grandwizard Theodore, Marley Marl, Pop Master Fabel, Joe Conzo, Ralph McDaniels and more.
In 2006 Wes created Brooklyn Bodega which went on to produce the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival as well as serve as a multifaceted media company. The Bodega consists of a website, a digital record label, a marketing agency, film and video production operation and consulting firm.
In 2011 Wes began his career as a lecturer partnering with GTHQ Talent to develop a “Hip-Hop 101″ Series that has visited over 20 campuses since its inception.
In addition to his successful business ventures, Wes has taught at the City University of New York and has consulted for Jazz At Lincoln Center, MTV’s Made, Grammy Camp and VH1 Hip-Hop Honors.
